20% decrease in vegetable production in Romania

Due to the prolonged drought that Romania faced this year, vegetable production has been 20% lower. Although the market is sufficiently well supplied at present with a large range of varieties, the problem that arises is that of price increases. Romanian consumers have already noticed an increase of the prices for products that are usually canned for winter. The increases have not been significant so far, but a state of tension has been created on the market. The most important vegetable deficit is felt in the tomato sector, where it is of about 30-40% compared to the capacity and needs of the factories.

There are 20 vegetable and fruit processing factories operating in Romania. They are fully modernised and can supply the market with high-quality European products, but they do not have sufficient raw material.
