Imported fruit and vegetables treated with significant quantities of pesticide are increasingly gaining a foothold on our internal markets. Tomatoes are now being sold in both supermarkets and open-air markets that will keep for months without any change in their colour or appearance, whereas normally such changes would be expected to occur after only a few days.
Imported tomatoes are treated with various chemicals that can have an adverse effect on human health, causing damage to the kidneys, liver or the central nervous system.
