Over the last few days, orchards and market gardens have been adversely affected by very low temperatures. Representatives of various fruit growing associations have pointed out that temperature fluctuations may cause losses of as much as 90% to 95% of the crop. Orchards have been badly affected by severe weather conditions, especially since the pollination of fruit trees whose flowers have opened will no longer be possible.
Steep falls in temperature to as much as 15 degrees below the seasonal norm have been registered, possibly delaying the summer fruit and vegetable harvest. Moreover, farmers point out that production costs have doubled, pushing up the price of fruit and vegetables considerably.
