The Romanian consumer association InfoCons has launched a mobile app for consumers to check information about products they have purchased by simply scanning a barcode. Products include food, cosmetics, cleaning, electronic and household products.

Consumers can buy the products they want from print or online catalogues, but they need to be careful about any offers they find, and above all be aware of the qualities of content-generated products and technical features. This is the principle on which InfoCons has provided this facility.

There are now around 30 000 products stored in the app, and consumers can get in touch with InfoCons using the app and help to update the app with new products.

Given the benefits of an app designed for consumers, would the Commission consider designing a similar app at EU level?
