Recent weather conditions combined with delays in receiving derogations for the use of neonicotinoid-based substances to treat seeds have favoured the emergence of the pest Tanymecus dilaticollis on an alarming scale. Farmers are warning that this is the worst Tanymecus attack seen in the last decade. Significant damage to maize crops has been recorded in several locations, jeopardising the harvest.
