Authentication of products provides substantial benefits to farmers across the EU. In Romania, a considerable number of farmers and farming associations complain about the unwieldy bureaucracy of obtaining authenticity certificates. Furthermore, Romanian farmers do business with farmers in other Member States. They also complain about the difficulty in obtaining authenticity certificates.
By obtaining these certificates, farmers are able to deliver their goods in other countries as well, even those outside the EU. If we want agriculture in Europe to be competitive with agriculture in countries outside the EU, we need to support farmers and certify the authenticity of their products as quickly as possible, providing they can prove compliance with the relevant standards.
What measures is the Commission considering to reduce red-tape in the certification process of product authenticity at EU level?
