Massive losses sustained by farmers as a result of adverse weather conditions

Extreme fluctuations in temperature have recently led to the destruction of sunflower and beet crops.

Barley and rape crops that are already well on the way to ripening are also being affected by temperatures dropping to below 10 degrees Celsius.

While recent rainfall has proved extremely beneficial, low temperatures have caused massive damage to spring and autumn crops and to orchards, with losses amounting to as much as 100%.

While vineyards are not yet being too badly affected by temperature fluctuations, there are fears that, if they continue, output will be adversely affected.

In view of this:

What measures can be taken by the Commission to compensate farmers in the various sectors badly affected by temperature fluctuations?
