As a state with great agricultural potential, Romania can produce cheap solar and wind energy and it can also be one of the important biogas producers. As regards wind energy, the country’s potential is given not so much by the areas where the wind turbines can be built, but also by the constancy of wind. Concerning solar energy, Romania is better positioned than other EU countries. Despite the country’s agricultural potential, biogas consumption, which would lead to an increased employment rate, is quite low in Romania. Also, the modernisation of agriculture, correlated with the energy-related investments, leads to an increased employment rate in the rural area.

Is the Commission considering stimulating renewable energy production in areas where the conditions are favourable, such as Romania?
