Shortage of medicinal products in Romania

According to the Romanian Coalition of Organisations of Patients with Chronic Illnesses, patients are experiencing great difficulties in accessing medical treatment and care.

In recent years, over 2 000 original and generic medicinal products have been withdrawn from the market in Romania, when in some cases no alternative pharmaceuticals exist. Moreover, according to information provided by manufacturers, the problem could become worse on 1 July 2016, when a further 123 medicines are to be withdrawn for regulatory reasons, when there are around 800 000 patents who need these products.

What instruments does the Commission have at its disposal to ensure that patients with chronic illnesses can continue to follow their courses of treatment?
