Elderly access to medical services

It is well known that Romania has an ageing rural population. Unfortunately, the population of Romanian villages is mainly made up of senior citizens, as young people go away to university and afterwards seek more profitable jobs in towns and cities.

Given that the population is ageing and needs more careful medical supervision, we believe that a programme needs to be started that will provide the elderly in rural areas with easier access to the medical services which they need so much.

We believe that care for the elderly is extremely important, particularly for those who have no relatives any more or whose relatives do not live close to them.

What tools does the Commission have to create better conditions for the elderly in rural areas?
